The 34th & 35th TRANSAFE WA Road Transport Industry Safety Forum WRAP UP! – May 2026
TRANSAFE WA recently delivered the 34th and 35th Road Transport Industry Safety Forums in Perth and Geraldton, bringing together drivers, operators, industry representatives, government agencies and safety professionals from across Western Australia. Both forums saw strong attendance and engagement, with important discussions taking place around some of the key challenges currently facing the road transport industry.
As anyone involved in transport knows, there’s nothing quite like a road trip to keep the road safety conversations flowing. Travelling the highway between Perth and Geraldton provided plenty of opportunity for presenters, sponsors and attendees alike to continue discussions, share observations and reflect on the behaviours, challenges and realities experienced every day on our roads. Across both forums, the importance of collaboration, education and open industry discussion remained a strong and consistent theme.
Across the two events, attendees heard from a diverse lineup of presenters covering a broad range of issues impacting the road transport industry and wider community.
Main Roads WA provided updates on Heavy Vehicle Services, accreditation, compliance activities and Chain of Responsibility enforcement, while Nationwide Training delivered practical information sessions focused on load restraint requirements, compliance obligations and proactive risk management within the transport chain.
WA Police led important discussions around road policing priorities, enforcement and driver behaviour, reinforcing the message that improving road safety outcomes requires responsibility and participation from all road users, industry and government alike. Discussions also touched on the growing challenges associated with emerging road safety issues, including the increasing presence of e-bikes within the broader road network environment.

Campbell Transport highlighted the dangers associated with unsafe overtaking and the importance of patience, communication and shared responsibility on regional roads, while Alcolizer Technology explored the growing challenges associated with drug, alcohol and fatigue management within the transport industry, including emerging drug trends, workplace impairment risks and the importance of education and early intervention. Their presentation also reinforced the importance of creating safer workplaces through support, awareness and ensuring workers are fit for duty, rather than simply focusing on punitive measures.
GT Insurance also joined the Perth forum, providing insight into the support available to operators and businesses when incidents do occur and highlighting the importance of preparation, communication and having the right systems and support networks in place before they are needed. Their presentation reinforced that safety conversations extend well beyond the roadside and into the long-term impacts incidents can have on businesses, drivers and the broader industry.
Injury Matters provided a powerful presentation on the ripple effects of road trauma and the lasting impacts experienced not only by those directly involved in crashes, but also families, emergency responders, workplaces and communities.
Geraldton attendees also heard from Firefly Transport Compliance Services regarding practical approaches to transport compliance and keeping businesses operating safely and efficiently within regulatory requirements. A Q&A session with MTData also generated valuable discussion around technology, compliance, fleet operations and the evolving challenges facing the transport industry. Discussions highlighted how advancements in camera systems and transport technology are becoming increasingly important not only for day-to-day operations and driver safety, but also in helping protect and support companies and drivers when investigating incidents, unsafe behaviour or disputed events on the road.
A particularly thought-provoking session delivered by Get Up & Grow Consulting explored the human side of safety, encouraging attendees to reflect on mental overload, emotional fatigue, psychological safety and the role human connection plays in improving workplace and road safety outcomes.
Attendees of the Perth forum also heard a powerful and deeply personal presentation from Chris Easter representing PBF Australia, who shared his story of becoming a paraplegic following a crash at just 17 years old. His presentation served as a confronting reminder of how quickly lives can change on the road and reinforced the importance of challenging the mindset of invincibility that can often influence driver behaviour.

Throughout both forums, facilitated industry discussions created valuable opportunities for attendees to openly share experiences, discuss current challenges and contribute ideas focused on improving safety outcomes across Western Australia’s road transport industry.
TRANSAFE WA would like to sincerely thank all sponsors, presenters and supporters who contributed to the success of the 34th and 35th Road Transport Industry Safety Forums.
A special thank you to our major forum sponsors, MTData and Nationwide Training, for their ongoing support of our association and their commitment to industry education and road safety initiatives across Western Australia. Their support extended far beyond sponsorship alone, with both organisations joining us on the road from Perth to Geraldton to present, engage with attendees and contribute to the important discussions taking place across both forums.
We also extend our appreciation to Mid West Ports, bp Australia and Maisey Fuels for their valued support and contribution to the events.
As highlighted throughout both forums, improving safety outcomes within the road transport industry requires ongoing collaboration, open conversation and a shared commitment to positive change.
These forums are not just about presentations, they are about creating opportunities for industry, government, operators, drivers, suppliers and stakeholders to come together and engage honestly about the challenges facing the sector and the solutions we must continue pursuing together.
TRANSAFE WA encourages everyone to take the conversations, ideas and lessons shared throughout the forums back into their workplaces, businesses and communities. By continuing to challenge unsafe behaviours, support one another and work collaboratively, we can all play a role in creating safer outcomes across Western Australia’s road network.
